Abstract/Summary

MOLA (Museum of London Archaeology) was commissioned to conduct a geophysical survey on land at Nunnery Farm the west of Rothwell, Northamptonshire. The survey detected three separate large enclosure systems along the top of the valley and several smaller, outlying archaeological features including ring ditches. The enclosure systems, all of which are presumed to be Iron Age or Roman, held evidence of roundhouses and internal divisions as well as a large number of pits and post holes. Evidence of surface quarrying was detected on the downslope, while medieval to early post-medieval ridge and furrow was detected in all of the surveyed fields.
