Abstract/Summary

In advance of development, archaeological recording action was undertaken by The Northamptonshire Archaeology Unit on land at the corner of Newbridge Lane and East Street, Stanwick (NGR SP 9820 7120) from 27th January 1992 for five days. Three trenches were excavated, reaching a maximum depth of c.1.1m. The earliest activity dates to the late Saxon period where a putative timber post structure, boundaries and pits were identified. Occupation continued through the medieval period with the construction of stone buildings. Post medieval quarrying subsequently took place after which time the site was used as a garden or orchard.
