Abstract/Summary

An archaeological evaluation of land to the north of Manor Farm, Stanion, was carried out by the Contracts Section of the Northamptonshire County Council Archaeology unit in March 1993. The purpose of the evaluation was to locate pottery kilns or any other features or artefacts which might indicate former activity associated with the pottery industry which flourished in Stanion in the Middle Ages. The evaluation comprised trail trenching which revealed that there were no features or artefacts on the site which might indicate the presence of a nearby kiln. Geophysical prospection could not be carried out owing to the presence of concrete foundations and rubble associated with the demolition of farm buildings which had previously occupied the site.
