Description

{1} Trial trenching took place at the former cinema site in Towcester on two occasions in 1983 and two occasions in 1984 in an attempt to locte the southern defences of Lactodurum. The first two days trenching took place when the cinema was still standing and the area available was limited. Roman boundary ditches, perpendicular to Watling Street, and possibly part of the Roman and, later, Civil War, defences were identified.
