Full Description
{1}Probably geological in origin (INFO FOARD G);NCCAP:SP6065/6-7;
{2} A series of sub-circular and linear cropmarks. Their irregular nature and the mixed local geology, would suggest that they are natural features. D. Hall's fieldwalking of the area in 1977 identified no prehistoric or Roman surface artefacts.
{3} Area C8 was placed in an effort to locate a cropmark; no scanning anomalies of interest were detected. The data contain several diffuse linear and pit-like responses. Whilst these may have an archaeological origin, such an interpretation remains tentative. The possibility exists of an incorrect rectification of the AP data (Mark Leah, pers. comm.). This and the similarity between the cropmarks and the complex of anomalies in Area C5, raise the possibility that the two are one and the same. If this were the case, the archaeological anomalies detected in Area CS will extend to the east, south and west.
{4} Archaeological trial trenching did not identify any significant features in this locaiton; a shallow ditch was interpreted as a modern field drain.
