Abstract/Summary
In December 1997 Cotswold Archaeological Trust was commissioned by Sandspinners Ltd to undertake a desk-based archaeological assessment of land adjacent to Ryehill Farm, Long Buckby, Northamptonshire, centred on NGR: 460500 266200. Only one site listed on the Northamptonshire County Council SMR intruded upon the study area, a series of sub-circular and linear cropmarks of probable natural origin (SMR 985). Further cropmarks of possible prehistoric or Romano-British date were situated within the vicinity of the site. A minor road linked to the Roman town of Bannaventa may possibly run through part of the study area to the south-east. The main feature of the site is the fairly well preserved ridge and furrow earthworks in a number of the fields, resulting from medieval field systems. The best preserved of these, however, will not be affected by the proposed development.
