Full Description

{3} The Lordship is enclosed. Sir John Egerton is the present Lord of the Manor. In the early part of James I reign Sir John Egerton, Bt of Staffs purchased two manors in Farthinghoe". The manor house west of the church is "a large old building, but greatly out of repair". [This may refer to Abbey Lodge.]

{5} The house immediately west of the church, Abbey Lodge, is usually called the Manor House, although the farmhouse to the north-west is said locally to be the original one. Plan.

{6} [Former list description] The Manor House Farthinghoe, now a farmhouse, is chiefly 19th c but stands on the site of an older building and incorporates some of it. Ungraded.

{7} The manor house retains some early work but is not outstanding. See photo.

{8} No change since report of 13.2.70.
