Full Description
{1} The magnetometer survey has detected a series of ditches, of which there is no strong evidence to date these but one possibility is that they could be field system ditches or other boundaries on the periphery to the nearby area of Romano-British settlement. The survey has detected an expanse of ground disturbed by 19th and 20th century quarrying. This activity will have removed any earlier archaeological remains lying in the affected area. Although historic Ordnance Survey maps show a number of limekilns in close proximity to the quarry, there is no convincing evidence in the data concerning the presence of these and it may be that any surviving kiln remains lie outside of the area surveyed
