Abstract/Summary

Trial trenches were excavated within the footprint of the identified geophysical reading which suggested the presence of possible medieval enclosures, house platforms and settlement remains. Additonal trenches were placed across the site to test apparently 'blank' areas. Five broad zones of archaeological potential were identified during the trial trenching. Trenches indicated the presence of previous settlement and associated activities. The pottery from these features suggested some limited activity associated with the Roman period and settlement activity of late Saxon and medieval date. In additon an isolated, suspected Bronze Age cremation was identified, along with relict ridge and furrow.
