Abstract/Summary

A desk-based study and field surveys of land along the proposed route of the A428 Crick bypass suggest that no archaeological sites are present within the bypass corridor or at the adjacent site designated for the contractor’s compound. There are no previously known archaeological sites and all fields and paddocks along the route are currently under pasture, which has a low potential for the detection of archaeological sites from surface evidence. Some fields contain denuded ridge and furrow of the medieval field system. Geophysical reconnaissance survey failed to locate any areas of enhanced magnetic susceptibility indicative of the presence of substantial buried archaeological remains, despite the relatively favourable geology.
