Abstract/Summary

The first stage of an archaeological evaluation comprising desk-based survey, ground reconnaissance and geophysical prospection was undertaken in January-February 1994 on land owned by KSR International Works Ltd at King’s Cliffe Northamptonshire (NGR TL042982). The evaluation was requested to enable archaeological consideration to be made of IDO application EN/92/386C. The application area contains cropmarks of unknown date and function. Archaeological fieldwork has enabled the extent of former quarrying to be defined. It has not proved possible so far, however, to characterise the cropmarks, but some areas of magnetic anomalies appear to be associated with surface spreads of ironworking slag.
