Description

A 1:2500 scale, level 3 survey was carried out by the RCHME Air Photography Unit in the vicinity of the possible Neolithic causewayed enclosure on Dallington Heath, SP725635. The survey was undertaken as part of the Industry and Enclosure in the Neolithic Project which was set up by the Cambridge field office of RCHME. The main objective of the survey was to produce an accurate plan of all plough-levelled features in a 1000 x 500 m area at the western end of the heath, (SP721633-SP726640-SP731639-SP727633-SP724630). The metrical accuracy of the finished plan was +/-3 metres. This was achieved by computer aided rectification using the AERIAL software published by the University of Bradford. Field control was obtained from current edition OS 1:2500 plans (SP7263-7363). An accompanying report detailing photographs used, site location and history and a full description of the features plotted was produced as well as an inked interim plan. As a result of this survey, one NMR record was updated (SP76SW 53) and six new monument records were created (SP76SW 99, 100, 101, 102, 103 and 104.
