Description

{2} The research revealed evidence that this part of the river valley was extensively used during the Iron Age and Roman periods, with indications of small farmsteads and field systems provided by both aerial photographs and excavation. Earlier prehistoric activity in the form of possible Bronze Age burial mounds and evidence of Neolithic settlement is also attested in the vicinity. During the medieval period the area was part of the open field system associated with the townships of Ecton and Earls Barton.
