Full Description

{1} Refers to map of Whittlewood Forest and constituent parishes; cartographic style of 18th century, but copy of earlier (1608) map. Map covers area of Passenham and Deanshanger - shows considerable detail for field boundaries, house sites, coppices in the woods and public road; important buildings are depicted larger and in great detail.

{3} Deanshanger probably originated during the medieval period. The village is not mentioned in the Domesday Survey and settlement in this area was focused on the village of Passenham.

{5} Backgound information given for context of fieldwork carried out in 2010.
