Full Description
{1} The date of the enclosure of the common fields of Upton is unknown. Bridges (Bridges 1791 1, 538), writing about 1720, reported that part of the lordship 'hath been enclosed within these few years' but that the rest was old enclosures. It is possible that the earlier enclosure dates from the years following the acquisition of Upton by the Knightley family in 1420.
