Abstract/Summary

Archaeological evaluation of five arable fields covering an area of some 42ha (100 acres) immediately to the north of the town of Higham Ferrers, Northamptonshire, was carried out between April 1989 and October 1990. It comprised three stages: an initial stage of assessment of sites already known in the area and the plotting of cropmarks, a secondary stage of non-destructive survey involving fieldwalking and magnetometer survey, and a final stage of selective trial trenching in order to gain evidence about the date and state of preservation of the sites which had been discovered.
