Full Description
{2} There is a full village plan on the Inclosure map but no schedule and the medieval and post medieval documentation for the village appears relatively poor. The plan form of the settlement is complex and there is no obvious indication as to the location of a market place. There are some limited areas of village earthworks but the rest of the village is intensively built up. Overall the settlement appears to have a very low potential in regard to and marketing functions.
{3} Flore village is made up of six lanes extending south in a rather irregular form from the main east-west High Street. There are traces of a former triangular green, now encroached upon, at the north end of Sutton Street and another area called The Green lies further south. The parish church is oddly situated in the south west corner of the village beyond the main built up area. This layout suggests that the village has either gradually moved towards the High Street from the area around the church or has been deliberately planned anew. Apart from the earthworks to the east of the church all of the land to the south and west of the church is permanent pasture or parkland with no visible indications of former settlement.
